Job Overview

Canonical is hiring a Software Support Engineer to work on Linux-based systems, virtualization, cloud technologies, and open-source applications. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about troubleshooting, fixing issues, and contributing to open-source projects. You will be working on complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kubernetes, OpenStack, and Ceph while collaborating with various engineering teams.


Key Responsibilities

โœ” Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in Ubuntu, Kernel, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Ceph.
  • Provide guidance and solutions to enterprise customers.

โœ” Collaboration & Code Contribution

  • Work closely with Field, Support, and Product Engineering teams to enhance software stability.
  • Participate in open-source communities and contribute bug fixes upstream.

โœ” Software Development & Testing

  • Develop bug fixes, patches, and code reviews for upstream inclusion.
  • Improve documentation, tools, and internal processes.

โœ” Remote Work & Occasional Travel

  • Work remotely with flexible hours.
  • Travel internationally up to 10% for team meetings and events.

Required Skills & Qualifications

โœ” Educational Background:

  • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.

โœ” Technical Skills:

  • Experience with Linux and open-source software.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.

โœ” Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and in a global team.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and deep-dive into complex issues.

โœ” Travel Requirement:

  • Willing to travel up to 4 times a year for internal company events.

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Skills)

โœ” Experience with:

  • Ubuntu Linux (Kernel or Userspace)
  • Kubernetes & OpenStack
  • Ceph & QEMU/KVM
  • LXC/LXD Containers
