Roles & Responsibilities
Interns will work on developing new features and improving the user experience for Mercari’s marketplace app and Merpay’s mobile payment service. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and enhancing application features for better user experience.
- Collaborating with diverse teams of software engineers and designers.
- Utilizing real technology and data to deliver impactful solutions.
- Engaging in both B2B and B2C service development at Merpay.
- Presenting project outcomes at the end of the internship.

Note: Due to visa processing requirements, the application deadline for international candidates is shorter.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must share Mercari’s mission and values.
- Must be a student (16 years or older) eligible for full-time employment between July 2026 and June 2027.
- Those with full-time work experience within the last three years may apply as second new graduates.
- Must be interested in a full-time role with Mercari Group after the internship.
- Basic knowledge of RDBMS and SQL.
- Experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Backend Development: API development using Go, PHP, or Java.
- Frontend Development: JavaScript, React, or similar technologies.
- Mobile Development: Swift for iOS.
- Platform Engineering: Kubernetes, Go.
- Site Reliability Engineering: Kubernetes, Terraform, Go.
- Corporate Engineering: Java, Go, PHP.
- Experience with Git and team collaboration.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in project management or team leadership.
- Knowledge of object-oriented software development.
- Understanding of software testing (unit, functional, e2e testing).
- Familiarity with cloud services like Google Cloud or AWS.
- Contribution to open-source software (OSS).
- UI/UX development knowledge.
Language Requirements
- English or Japanese proficiency (CEFR – B2 level or above).
- Some roles may require specific language proficiency depending on the project.
